All Good Things Come To An End...

The time has come for Sheri and I to let In A Pinch Designs come to an end. When we started IAPD, we thought it would be fun to start a small kit company. That little kit company has gotten a lot bigger than we both had anticipated.
Sheri and I both work full time; rewarding jobs that we are not willing to leave and IAPD designs has gotten so successful that it needs a fulltime person in order to continue. We struggled about what step to take next. Through much discussion and debate we have both decided this is the best move for us. This decision was slow in it's evolution, but when we let our website go at the end of December, it felt as though the writing was on the wall.
It has been a fabulous ride and we can only thank our customers for that ride. You welcomed our kits and gave us such encouragement to continue with each sale. It was always so rewarding to hear your comments at each show we attended. The wonderful emails we would receive after a mailed order. Truly fabulous customers!
We certainly cannot go another minute without thanking both Richard and Darren; our loving husbands. We could not have done this without their support. The insanity that would accompany the time leading up to each show was unbelievable. They both took it in stride and recognized that IAPD was a passion of Sheri's and mine. We love you both so much for all of it.
In regards to product that we have left over; Sheri and I are going to have a big local sale. You wil not be able to make any furthur purchases online, but we are planning 2 large garage sales. All of our kits will be half price and we will also be selling all paper, cardstock, ribbons and embellishments as well. Furthur information on these sales are forthcoming but needless to say it will be big. We will also be selling our kits at the Nottawasaga Go Scrapping Retreat in February as well; again all of our kits will be half price as well!!
So, where do Sheri and I go from here. To be completely honest, we look forward to simplicity. I think that is our word for 2011. Simplicity!!! We both want to get back to scrapbooking our own pages. We really have not done much for our own books for several years now. I know that Sheri want to start painting again. I looking for that first painting to come off the easel!

June Calendar Class...

I always look forward to the end of the school year. An opportunity to spend some extra quality time with the kids. That is what came to mind when choosing this older Basic Grey Offbeat pattern paper. Such great colors and just reminded me of an offbeat science motif.

I started with 3 sheets of the pattern paper and a sheet each of pale yellow, blue, and ilive green cardstock.
I cut one piece each of 2.5x11, 6x11, and 3x11 pattern paper.
Using the picture above for placement, adhere each pattern piece with the larger in the middle and each of the smaller pieces on the top and bottom. Each piece is flush to each other.

I cut 2 yellow 4x6 inch photomats with 2 blue 4.25x6.25 inch photomats. Also cut one 3x4 inch yellow photomat and one 3.25x4.25 inch blue photomat. Adhere all the smaller photomats to the larger photomats.

Now adhere your photomats to your layout.

I used this great die cut and matted it in the blue cardstock.

I used pop dots to elevate the die cut off from the paper.

I placed the die cut in the upper left corner of the layout. I then placed 5 buttons around the title. they have all been threaded with white embroidery floss. Now it is ready for your photos.

May Calendar Class...

I have loved this Basic Grey Oh Baby Girl paper from the first time that I had seen it. I bought so much of it and made many projects from it. So glad to be able to use more again for the month of May. I even had some of the large die cut letters left over and perfect for what I needed it for.

I also used a sheet of lavendar and baby yellow cardstock.

Cut the center from the yellow cardstock and set aside. I will use this later in the layout for photomats.
Cut the lavendar cardstock to 11.5x11.5 inches. Adhere over the center of the yellow cut square.

Using a 1.5 inch circle punch, cut 8 circles from a floral pattern paper.

Cut 2 4x6 photomats from the previous cut yellow cardstock. Cut a 3x11 inch peice striped pattern paper and adhere to layout but only adhering the right edge to layout. Now place all circle diecuts under striped patter paper for placement. Then adhere all circles once you get good, even placement.

Adhere large letters as seen in photo provided.

I have seen the following technique in many tutorials on the internet and thought it would look so lovely on this page. So, I used a large scalloped circle die cut punch and a smaller floral die cut punch. Get a bowl of water and place each die cut flower in the water. Very carefully take each flower out of the water and squeeze tightly to remove as much water as possible. Then place each of the flowers in the microwave for 15-45 seconds until they are dried. Take them from the microwave and carefully pull them apart from their crumpled form.

They will then look like the picture below.

As seen in the photo below, layer 3 larger flowers and a smaller flower over each other.

Place a brad through the center of the flower.

Adhere them to the layout as seen below. I also cut 8 photo corners from a pink floral PP and adhered to the photo as seen.

April Calendar Class...

I was inspired by some old but fabulous Crate Paper for this Spring inspired Calendar Page. I don't usually work with purple but did love it. I am lovin' the large tulip...So pretty!!!

I started with some cream, light purple, pale green, and dark purple cardstock. Made some pretty die cuts including the title and the tulip.
Cut the plain cardstock to 11.5x11.5 inches to be centered over the striped cardstock pattern paper. Using the lighter purple cardstock for a photomat; adhere it to a larger photomat. Only adhere the left edge of the photomat to the layout. Adhere the tulip on the left side of the photomat. Curl the tips of the tulip and leaves for added dimension.

Make a tag from your pattern paper and then make a mat for the same tag. Pierce a hole for the ribbon and thread the ribbon through the hole. Adhere the title to the title mat using pop dots; adhere the title to the tag. Adhere the pattern paper to the right edge of the photomat. Then adhere the photomat to the pattern paper. Adhere the tag over the photomat, in the lower left corner of the layout.

March Calendar Class...

I was so excited about the creating the next page of our calendar. I have always wanted to create a shamrock-filled page and have really never had the opportunity. So this was my chance. Hope you enjoy. And just a reminder that the diecuts that are present are available for purchase. Just a quick email and we will be able to get them to you.

I started with some old Basic Grey papers and some dark green, light green and white cardstock. Printed a familiar Irish expression on the computer...

Using my die cut machine, I cut some large, medium and small shamrocks and a vine that had shamrocks attached to it.

I cut the white cardstock 11.5x11.5 inches and centered and adhered it over the dark green cardstcock. Using three different shades of Basic Grey and other patterned papers cut in various lengths, I placed them as seen below in a L-shaped pattern in lower left corner of page.

The circular bottom border PP is 4x9 inches. The outside vertical PP is 2.5x11 inches. The middle vertical PP is 3x10 inches. The inside vertical PP is 2.5x9 inches.

Using white and dark green cardstock for the picture matting, I placed it on an angle as seen below. As seen in the pictures above and on the layout below, you can see how I have placed the shamrocks. You can also see that I have added a few more embellies such as the green gems and the pale green flowers.

I also curled the edges of shamrocks so it adds a little more dimension to the shamrocks and I also thought it just looked pretty!

I hope you enjoy putting together one of your own calendar pages.

February Calendar Class...

Well, in keeping with the month of February and the Valentines' theme, these pinks and browns speak to the month so lovely. These are again old Bo Bunny Papers that have turned into a great Calendar Page.

I have trimmed the darker pink cardstock to 11.5"x11.5". Adhere it to the brown 12"x12" cardstock.
I used a 1 1/4" scalloped punch and punched 8 scalloped circles from the light pink cardstock.

Using a 1 1/2" circle punch, cut 8 die cuts from the brown cardstock. Adher the light pink scalloped circles to the brown cardstock circles.

I used a 1" circle punch to cut circles from the pink circle patterned paper. I then adhered them to the front of the pink cardstock circles.

The three die cuts as mentioned above.

Cut a 12" length of vintage trim.

Adhere the 6 x 11" patterned paper over the bottom half of page. Adhere vintage trim to lower half of patterned paper.

Adhere the die cut circles as seen in photo provided.
I have cut a die cut called "be mine" and cut a brown mat for the same title.

Looking at the finished page you cansee that I have added several embellishments from some old Bo Bunny stickers and some of my favourite Prima flowers as well as a flourish die cut.

Once again the diecuts on this page are avialble for purchase. I hope you enjoy this page and are abale to adapt it to your own calendar.

January Calendar Class...

Welcome to the first installation of our 12 week Calendar Class. We are very excited to share this process with you and hope that you are able to create some lovely calendars for yourself or someone special. Just a couple of housekeeping issues to take care of:

**For this and subsequent weeks, I will not be including what scrapbooking supplies you need unless I have included a technique in the class and then I will have step by step instructions. Depending on what techniques you use on your own pages will determine what scrapbooking supplies you will need. Of course for any scrapbooking project you will need your basic kit of glues/adhesives, trimmers, and ruler.

**For each of my class entries I have used only scraps of paper left over from previous projects. You will see some fairly recent patterned papers and also some old designs as well. I thought I would try to use up some of the scraps in my stash. It goes to show that you do not need the latest and greatest scrapbooking supplies to create something pretty.

**In regards to the blank calendar itself, I purchased mine at a local scrapbooking store. There are many templates out there, but this is a completely blank calendar and I will add the numbers to it myself.

**You will see that there are many die cuts on each of the classes. Each of these are available for purchase through In A Pinch Designs. Each die cut will be available for $2.00 for each month's die cut. Just contact us through inapinchdesigns@gmail.com of give us a call at 519-220-0039.

January Calendar Class

This is a Bo Bunny patterned paper from last winter. I think I bought the whole line of papers because they were so pretty. I did not use them all and thought it was a perfect fit for the beginning of my calendar.

For this class I did ink everything that I cut with a turquoise Cat's Eye Chalk Ink. It fit perfectly with my paper.

I then cut 2 photomats 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 and one 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 from Bo Bunny polka dot cardstock. And then two white photomats 4x6 and one white 4x4. I did ink the edges of all of these photomats as well.
Adhere the white photomats to the blue photomats and using the picture provided as a guide place the photomats as seen.

I had a few stickers left over from the projects that I had created earlier from this line of paper and decided to add these to the page. I did mat them in a purple Bo Bunny polka dot cardstock as well, trimmed around the edges and then inked them all.

If you don't have stickers, find poem websites of the internet and using a Word program, type out a poem to place on your page. There are many sites out there that allow you to do this and there are no copyright infringements.

I did add a few phtocorners to the photomats as you can see. It just helped to add a little definition to the corners of my mats. i also had some extra flourishes sitting around from Zva Creative that were left over from a project and I applied them to the layout.

Very pleased with the finished project.

Calendar Club Classes...

Sheri and I are bringing you something new this fall. I know that we are continuing to have beautiful summer weather outside but the next seasons are quickly coming upon us. And, with that comes Christmas gifts or even a gift to yourself. Many people like to gift a scrapbooked calendar at Chrsitmas time; so Sheri and I are going to help you accomplish this goal by giving you templates for a calendar.

Each Monday and continuing for 12 consecutive weeks, a new month will be posted with a few images showing you the process of getting to the completed layout. It is yours to copy as much and as many times as you would like. The classes will be completed the week of November 22 in plenty of time to have it completely finished for Christmas.

Look for the first class on September 6, Labour Day morning. We hope you enjoy this series and we have enjoyed putting it together for you.

Scrapfest Oshawa 2010

Sheri and I are so excited to back after a great summer off. Sheri settled into her fabulous new job as a Project Assistant at a local Architect firm. I decided to spend lots of time renovating a living room and kitchen in my home. Lots of work but the finished product is going to be so much fun. As we both look forward to the fall scrapbooking season, we look forward to Scrapfest at Durham College in Oshawa on October 15 and 16, 2010. Registration starts in the morning and it is going to fill fast so make sure you sign up quickly for your VIP passes and a spectacular crop.
Sheri and I are busy at work creating new kits and we are planning a stunning make and take available to all who visit our booth on that weekend. We are looking forward to meeting lots of new people and having lots of fun.

A big HUGE THANKYOU for everyone who dropped by our booth at ScrapFest! Judy and I had a great time. It was wonderful seeing old friends and making new ones.

We loved our new bigger booth. It was perfect!

We couldn't make our participation at ScrapFest a success without the support of others.
First and foremost a big thank you to our friend Janet. Her cheerful face greeting everyone who entered our booth and this year even helping out with the Make N' Take created a calm and welcoming atmosphere. We appreciated your help.

We want to thank our husbands Darren and Richard who our always ready to help with the grunt work and with weeks before the event making sure meals are made and cutting pieces for the kits our completed.

A special shout out to Judy's son Jared. He showed up to help for set up and take down and never complained when we asked him to do something. Thank you Jared we really appreciated your help.

A thank you goes out to Janet's husband Doug and her son Mason. They showed up at the end of the show to help us pack up. That was a great help... Thank You!

Well, hubby is gone to pick up the truck and then we will be packing up and heading to the Auditorium in Kitchener to set up the booth for Scrapfest. Let me start off by saying "We've missed you!"
Blogging hasn't been a priority of late but, thank you to those that keep coming back to see if there is a new entry.

Judy and I love working on new kit designs for In A Pinch Designs but our little business doesn't pay the big bills. Judy is a full time nurse and I've been in school this last year upgrading my skills. I've recently graduated and am proud to say, that not to long after graduating, have landed a great position with a fabulous company! Most of you know the first weeks starting a new job can be very stressful and tiring which is why you haven't seen me on the blog these last few days. I'm back though and ready to get at it.

Spring brings new life and I intend on bringing new life to the In A Pinch blog and website. I'm still going to scout out fabulous "Friday Flicks" but you'll see some other fun things here on our blog. New designs have been completed and I'm working on getting them up in the store. Crop for Haiti 2!

Last night was very exciting watching Alexandre Bilodeau win Canada's first gold of the Olympics. I don't know about you, but the Vancouver games are making me feel very patriotic!

But... even though the world is focused on Vancouver we can't forget what's still going on in Haiti. Our last Haiti crop was a huge success that we want to do it again. Please join us this Friday night at the Go Scrapping Studio, to raise money for the Haiti relief while cropping the night away. Give Karen a call at the Studio to register your spot. A big HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who attended the Crop for Haiti last night!! There were lots of laughs and giggles. We all had a great time! The ladies generously gave a total of $210.00!! So, with the government matching what we donate, that's $420.00!! Can I get a WOOHOO!!

Some of us will be having turkey this Christmas and I thought for Wednesday's Wish this week, why do we save the wishbone and then pull it apart to make a wish? We all do this ritual but really have now idea why. I got on my trusty Google and found this.

If you believe your wish will come true when you win the break in a wishbone contest, then you're following in the footsteps of civilizations dating back to the Etruscans, 322 B.C. And -- it started with a hen, not a turkey.

In those days, when a man wanted an egg he waited for the hen to announce the coming of her product. This made the animal mystical in that it could tell the future -- and that led to what became known as the "hen oracles."

If you lived back then, and wanted to receive an answer to an important question from these oracles, you would draw a circle on the ground and divide it into the twenty-four letters of the alphabet. Grains of corn were placed in each section, and the cock or hen was led into the circle and then set free. It was believed that the fowl would spell out words or symbols by picking up kernels of corn from the different sections. For example, the first letter of a future husband's name would be the first kernel of corn picked.

After writing the message, the fowl was sacrificed to a special deity and its collarbone was hung out to dry. Then, you'd get to make a wish on the bone. Then two other people got a chance to make a wish by snapping the dried bone in the same way we do now, with each one pulling on an end. The person with the larger end of the bone got the wish -- and it became known as a "lucky break."

The Romans brought the wishbone tradition with them when they conquered England, and that's how we got it.

Good Morning In A Pinch bloggers!

It's the first day of December and the eager anticipation of Christmas has begun.

Have you started your holiday shopping? I know some of you have already purchased and wrapped the gifts. Not me... I haven't yet stepped into a store or mall. I'm just now starting to make my lists of what to buy family and friends and what's needed for all the festive activities.

Speaking of lists, I was blog surfing just the other day and I came across this fabulous site called Paper Glitter. Paper Glitter is an artist who is a toy designer during the day but in their off time designs these fabulous paper crafts. On Paper Glitter you can download free templates to print and then fold to make wonderful paper creations. Below is a picture of Christmas shopping lists and tags I plan to use. Definitely check out what other fun templates you can download from Paper Glitter.

Judy and I just got back from the Go Scrapping Crop in Cambridge. We had a great time!

Crafty Christmas Blog Hop!

Well... it has been quite a week! Judy and I want to thank everyone who participated or dropped by to see what we had to share. We would like to thank Karen of Go Scrapping and Lucy of Simply Scrapping who helped made this blog hop a joy to be a part of.

Speaking of a blog hop... let's get things started! The first picture is a card based on the Simply Scrapping sketch. Judy used Graphic 45 paper and Crafty Secrets embellishments. The word JOY is sprinkled with Martha Stewart glitter. Got to love glitter!

The next couple of photos are a back pack I made using cardstock and bits of the new Cosmo Cricket Christmas line. I plan to make some earrings for my niece and package them inside the back pack. It would also make a great little way to package a gift card.

And to wrap things up... Judy created this stunning gift bag and tag. She used the Trim the Tree Bo Bunny line. I sure hope my Christmas gift is wrapped up in this package! Gorgeous!

Crafty Christmas Day Four

This has been a fun week for Sheri and I. It has been a hoot creating the great projects that we will reveal on Friday.

Today, Sheri and I are hosting the blog hop. We are technically "Wrapping up the Week" for you. Day Four is about different ways to wrap those special gifts that you want to give to a friend, family member or that special someone in your life. My inspiration was the fabulous idea of a bag, a tag, or a card. How to incorporate the three in one gift. I loved decorating my Banana Loaf. I found the cutest little brown bags at Micheals; the perfect size for a recipe card. So not only do they get a nicely wrapped loaf to enjoy but they also get the recipe to recreate it themselves someday.

Remember on Friday we are releasing all the projects that we created using the inspiration from ourselves, Go Scrapping and Simply Scrapping. Stay Tuned for the Big Release.

Wednesday's Wish!

My wish today is for all the teachers who are busy marking tests or writing out report cards that you take a moment to reflect how special you are and how much you make a difference in each child that looks up to you.

I thought in keeping with the teacher theme I'd offer a special poem that can be put in a Christmas card for your child's teacher.

Crafty Christmas Day One!

Judy and I are so excited to start off the Crafty Christmas Blog Hop!! Day one is about Christmas traditions.

One of our Christmas traditions was sprinkling magical reindeer food on our front lawn so the reindeer would make sure Santa didn't pass our house. On Christmas Eve, Jayden in his pajamas, would get his coat and boots on, head out to the front lawn and sprinkle the sparkling reindeer food. We also left carrots along side Santa's cookies and milk.

Of course, every Christmas morning he would check to see if reindeer tracks were left in the snow.

Jayden is now a teenager and new traditions are starting for this stage in his life but, I will always treasure the memories watching him sprinkling reindeer food on Christmas Eve.

Here is the recipe and the poem for the reindeer food. It's pet and non magical animal friendly. I use sugar instead of glitter.

Ingredients:
1 cup rolled oats
2-6 Tbsp red colored sugar
2-6 Tbsp. green colored sugar
Preparation:
Mix the ingredients together and place in a plastic bag, adding as much colored sugar as you like for a festive effect.

Poem
Sprinkle this reindeer food outside tonight.

The moonlight will make it sparkle bright.

As the reindeer fly and roam.

This will guide them to your home.

Here are photos of a container I made using a Prima flower jar to hold the reindeer food. The label has the poem printed on it.

I also created the poinsettia on top. If you would like to learn how to make the paper poinsettia here is a link to where you can download the instructions. It's a safe site for downloading. I use it all the time.

Another Great Retreat

Judy and I had a wonderful weekend at the Go Scrapping retreat in London. Karen put on an excellent retreat as usual by my goodness there were some hardcore scrapbookers there. Some ladies got a whopping 70+ layouts done. Wahzoo!!
We also got the opportunity to meet Lori from the Memory Mill in Dorchester and we are pleased to announce that she is now carrying our kits in her store! Yippee! Thanks Lori!

We are Here and it is fabulous!!! Karen from Go Scrapping has once again outdone herself. She always makes us feel so welcome and the crop room looks great. We love joining her in her many travels. In regards to the weekend, we thought we would share some pictures of Saturday morning with you. Our make and take started bright and early with many eager scrapbookers wanting to make a great little "Christmas Lists" Album It is only 47 shopping days until the big day. We're Home...

Sheri and I have made it home. We had a wonderful time and met some fantastic women. I do have more pictures to share with you but that is for a later post. Sheri and I will be busy for the next couple of weeks getting more Christmas products on line and ready for our next release on the 15th.
Just wanted to say "Thanks" to Karan from Go Scrapping and to all the fab women we met. A great venue and the staff at the hotel were so accommodating as well. A great weekend had by all!!
